Update: Parks Accessibility Campaign
We wanted to take a moment to say thank you and give an update on the Playground Upgrade Project at the City Park. First, we want to say a huge thank you to the entire community for your generous donations to the Accessibility Campaign. We were able to exceed our goal of $120,000 because of donations big and small from people across the community. We are blown away by the compassion and generosity of Boerne and know that this project will make a huge impact on our community because of you.
After hitting our goal, we gathered bids from several experienced playground design and installation groups around the area. Unfortunately, after obtaining several bids it became clear that, like many areas of the economy, inflation has hit the playground industry. Because of rising prices across the board, the amount we raised will not go as far as we were hoping originally.
As such, we have two choices:
the first is to move forward with the amount we have which will allow for a full replacement of the ground cover to a PIP material (our top priority in making the playground more accessible) and the addition of a few new/updated play pieces, but not the full vision that we originally planned.
The second option is to raise an additional $30,000, which will allow for an expanded footprint and additional play pieces and will take the upgrade from good to great.
Currently, we are working on option 2, looking into a few ways to raise the additional capital including applying for some community grants from larger organizations. However, if we cannot raise the additional amounts, we still plan to begin the upgrades by the end of the year, following through on our commitment to the community.
Thanks to everyone who has already contributed to this project! We look forward to breaking ground soon and enhancing our park space for children of all abilities!
