Boerne City Park Accessibility Project
Boerne Parks Association is thrilled to announce our latest project as part of our accessibility initiative: Accessibility Upgrades at the Boerne City Park play area.
The Boerne City Park play area is a highly utilized playground throughout the year, especially during soccer season. Unfortunately, due to its outdated ground cover (mulch) and older equipment, it is not as accessible and usable by those with disabilities.
Boerne Parks Association, in cooperation with the Boerne Parks Department, seeks to install upgrades and improvements to the playground area that will enhance the experience for all users, but especially those with disabilities.
These upgrades include:
Replacing the outdated plastic edging and mulch ground cover with Pour-in-Place (PIP) rubberized surfacing. This will provide a safer and more durable play area and allow easier access and greater mobility for those using wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters.
Replacing current swings with more (4-6 swings) options that will allow children with a wide range of abilities to enjoy. This includes adding inclusive swings with specially designed supportive seats.
Expanding the play area to add inclusive play elements including a "ten spin" rotating element and sensory panels – both of which are designed and recommended elements for children of all abilities.
